24 Weeks- Viability Day

What is viability day? Most doctors define the age of viability as being about 24 weeks of gestation. In many hospitals, 24 weeks is the cutoff point for when doctors will use intensive medical intervention to attempt to save the life of a baby born prematurely. A baby born at 24 weeks would generally require a lot of intervention, potentially including mechanical ventilation and other invasive treatments followed by a lengthy stay in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

This is a huge milestone but of course it does not mean we are out of the woods yet. It is just nice to know that I have reached this point in my pregnancy.  I remember looking at 24 weeks and thinking it was so far away, but today is the day and it's a good day. Next stop, third trimester.

I also want to thank all of my fellow bumpies, friends, family, and especially my husband for being so supportive through this whole wonderful experience so far. We are getting closer and closer to meeting our precious baby girl!
